Here at BITESIZE you can study for a BTEC in Performing Arts and for LCM Singing and Drama Exams.

For ages 13-16
BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Performing Arts (Performance)
An accredited one-year course to achieve Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts, equivalent to 480 guided learning hours and 4 GCSE’s.
New Intake for BTEC Performing Arts will start each September.

The course offers BITESIZE Youth Theatre members the opportunity to combine regular weekly classes in Dance, Drama, Musical Theatre and Casting; with the BITESIZE Youth Theatre Productions and some additional classes, rehearsals and tutorials; to achieve a BTEC qualification equivalent to 4 GCSE’s. All of the coursework is undertaken outside of normal school hours and so can add qualifications to your study of academic subjects in school.

Pupils will be required to attend the following BITESIZE classes:-

● Tuesday 6pm-8pm Hybrid Dance & Drama
● Tuesday 5pm-6pm Casting
● Thursday 6pm-7pm Drama
● Thursday 7pm-8pm Musical Theatre
● Thursday 8pm-9pm Tutorial
● Rehearsals Thursday 8-9pm and Sunday (Sept – Feb) leading to a Musical Production (e.g. Annie) performing over February half-term

New Intake for BTEC Performing Arts will start each September.
The cost of the full course is £2500 payable in 10 monthly instalments.
This includes the cost of all of the above classes, taking part in the annual Musical Production and BTEC examination entrance fees.

Individual singing lessons. 8 week fast-track course.
A really fun way of getting Grade qualifications (like those for musical instruments), which can also contribute to UCAS points.

SINGING Exams
Suitable for all ages. We offer an 8 week fast-track course of individual singing lessons [with more lessons, should they be required and time be available] leading to progressive LCM Grade Exams (Grades 1-8 + Diploma in Musical Theatre). The Exams all take place in the familiar surroundings of BITESIZE.
n.b The Musical Theatre syllabus is due to change in 2024.

DRAMA Exams
Suitable for all ages. We offer an 8 week fast-track course of individual drama/acting lessons [with more lessons, should they be required and time be available] leading to progressive LCM Grade Exams (Grades 1-3 in Acting & Grades 4-8 +Diploma in Speech and Drama. The Exams all take place in the familiar surroundings of BITESIZE.

BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Performing Arts (Performance)
Outline of courses

unit 1 – Individual showcase

(External assessment by DVD and letter of application)
From a scenario set by exam board, pupils will write a letter of application and create a DVD featuring 2 skills from dance, acting, singing or variety act.

unit 2 – Performing Arts business

(External assessment by an Online test)
Pupils will learn to understand the business side of Performing Arts. Pupils will be assessed Externally via an Online test (similar in style to driving theory test)

unit 4 – Dance skills

Pupils will learn Dances in differing styles and perform them throughout the year. The dances will be recorded and pupils will keep logs of their work and review their performances.

unit 5 – Musical Theatre performance

Pupils will learn, rehearse and perform scenes from a Musical. Their performances will be recorded and pupils will keep logs of their work and review their performances.

unit 8 – Preparation, Production and Performance

Pupils will prepare, rehearse and produce a scene from a Pantomime. Their performances will be recorded and pupils will keep logs of their work and review their performances.

unit 9 – Performance in context

Pupils will produce three pieces of work showing research and understanding of the background and themes of the Musical studied in Unit 5.

unit 15 – Performing scripted plays

Pupils will learn, rehearse and perform a number of contrasting scripted scenes or monologues. Their performances will be recorded and pupils will keep logs of their work and review their performances.

unit 27 – Supporting performance – Front of House

Pupils will learn what is required to successfully prepare Front of House (FOH) for an event and then do the preparations for a real event and run all aspects of FOH; dealing with the audience. The Pupils will be required to keep logs and review their work.

unit 31 – Community Arts

Pupils will research what makes a community project successful and look at examples of Community Organisations and their work. Pupils will then organise a project as a group and run and perform in the event. The Pupils will be required to keep logs and review their work.

unit 37 – Performing Arts Enterprise

Pupils will research what makes a Performing Arts Enterprise successful and look at examples. Pupils will then organise and run an Enterprise as a group, keeping logs and reviewing their work.

unit 40 – Singing skills

Pupils must prepare two solo songs for performance, and work, in an ensemble, to rehearse and perform two additional Musical Theatre songs. Pupils will keep logs of your singing progress in class and review their skills and performance.
