    The BITESIZE YOUTH THEATRE also gives children the opportunity to build up to public performances alongside professional actors.

We offer Weekly classes in all aspects of Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre. Our team of professional Directors, Choreographers, Teachers and Actors will teach a range of skills and performance techniques including acting, dancing, singing, improvisation, circus skills, slapstick and even Shakespeare. Workshops are available for youth groups, clubs and schools. There are opportunities to participate in Professional performances and Performance courses during school holidays.

Like School Staff, all BITESIZE personnel and tutors are checked by the DBS under the Protection of Children Act.

Adult Musical Theatre Singers

Our Adult Musical Theatre singing group meets every Monday from 7 – 9pm.
We are always looking for more members. Come along for a singsong and a cuppa.
Anyone aged 18 and over is welcome; No experience necessary. (£8.50 a week (when paid half-termly) ; £10 a week (when paid weekly)

Youth Theatre Classes

One hour classes cost £8.50, and two hour hybrid classes cost £14.00… if paid half-termly in advance.

If you choose to pay weekly or not in advance the cost will be £10 per one hour class and £17 per two hour class.

Over a term professional Directors, Choreographers, Teachers and Actors will teach a range of skills and performance techniques including acting, dancing, improvisation, juggling, slapstick and even Shakespeare. There are also opportunities to take part in rehearsals and performances with the Professional Actors, to attend short courses and to go on organised theatre visits.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE CLASSES

Two hour Hybrid Dance/Drama classes

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Over the two hours the children will cover a variety of activities; an hour, of which, will be dance/movement activities and the other hour being drama activities.
Drama topics include – warm-up games and exercises to develop vocal projection, physical characterisation, mime, script reading, improvisation, role-play and script writing.
Dance topics include –warm-up, floor sequences, travelling sequences, routines, body conditioning; using a variety of styles including Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Street and Jazz dance.

One hour classes

Wednesday’s Class for 3 to 5 year olds ()

This is an introductory class especially for young children. The children take part in fun activities and learn core dance steps, coordination and movement skills; based on the ISTD primary syllabus; also drama activities, songs and imagination and communications skills.

Thursday Musical Theatre

These classes use a range of songs in different styles to teach vocal warm-ups, breathing technique, placing the voice, range gymnastics and group singing; leading on to work on musical terms, part singing, harmony, Musical Theatre, competition work, solos and duets. There are regular festivals and singing competitions to attend as well as our own singing festival and visits to musicals and concerts.

Thursday Tap Classes

After an initial warm-up, the class uses differential learning to teach a range of steps from single beats to complex time-steps, sequences, routines, solo and partner work.

Casting

These classes prepare students to audition for Professional Theatre, Film and TV work. Covering audition technique, speeches, camera and microphone work. Some classes are taken by Visiting Professionals. There is also the opportunity to join The Bitesize Agency for representation in Spotlight, with regular auditions for film/tv and UK no.1 tours.

Private Singing Lessons

One on one singing coaching is available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. By appointment only. Private singing lessons are only available to pupils taking other classes at BITESIZE. Currently these classes are working towards LCM qualifications (see Exam Centre)
